Ons se so maklik ‘hy is borderline’. Maar is dit ‘n feit? Daar is werklik so ‘n sindroom.

Kry hulp want daar IS.

Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder

*Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment
*A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation
*Identity disturbance, such as a significant and persistent unstable self-image or sense of self
*Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating)
*Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior
*Emotional instability due to significant reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)
*Chronic feelings of emptiness
*Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)
*Transient, stress-related paranoid thoughts or severe dissociative symptoms

There are many theories about the possible causes of BPD. Most professionals say genetic factors, social factors (such as how a person interacts in their early development with their family and friends and other children) and psychological factors (shaped by their environment and learned coping skills to deal with stress) contributes. This suggests that no single factor is responsible — rather, it is all three factors that are important.
Susan J a BPD suffer reflects: “As someone diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder I can hurt someone’s feelings at a very deep level and think I have only superficially wounded them. I have hurt my therapist on occasion and used her as an “emotional punching bag.” Sonia J.
Treatment of BPD typically involves long-term psychotherapy particularly Dialectic Behavioural Therapy with a therapist that has experience in treating this kind of personality disorder. Research has shown, many peoples conditions improve over time. Pursuing treatment and learning about the condition and ways to manage it often helps.

  1. Maggie, jou huisdokter is die beste beginplek. Hulle weet gewoonlik wie in jou omgewing in watter gemoedsiektes spesialiseer.
    Sterkte!
